Menicon Announces The Rose K2 NC lens

The Rose K2 family of lenses for keratoconus and irregular corneas has established itself worldwide as the most used solution for these challenging patients.  However, the niple-type cone, which is often very steep and normally affects only the central 5mm of the cornea, poses a challenge for the fitter as existing keratoconus designs will not fit these shaped corneas ideally.  Until now no specific nipple cone design has been avaliable.

The Rose K2 NC is specifically designed for all stages of the nipple cone, and features a very small spheric back optic zone diameter which decreases as the base curve steepens.  It also incorporates a very rapid peripheral flattening outside the back optic zone, and front surface aberration optics to provide outstanding vision.  The fitting process is very simple as it adopts the same 5-step systematic approach as with all previous Rose K2 designs.

A recent 3 month trial conducted with 13 international experts gave outstanding results, with 86% of cases being fitted successfully with the first lens ordered, 60% reporting better vision than with their previous GP lens, and all fitters indicating they would use this design when it became available commercially.  Several of the patients that were involved in the trial, that had worn rigid lenses for many years, commented that this was the most comfortable lens that had ever worn in their lives.

The Rose K2 NC will be launched first in the United Kingdom, followed soon thereafter with launches in the USA and Canada, and then across Europe and the world.  Further specific information about the product and availability will be forthcoming soon.
